Jacob flicks the light on and catches both of them by surprise, unprepared for each other’s presence when absence has nearly grown into a habit. Jimmy opens his mouth to explain, and he didn’t cry at either hastily-assembled funeral, spent an entire week too numb for anything but cold logistics, but he’s crying now and he can’t seem to stop and Jacob reaches out and pulls him close so maybe he doesn’t need an explanation anyway.
